Meet Supermarius: The Artist Turning Crisis into Creativity
Published on TRK TLNT
How It All Started
Supermarius's journey into music is a testament to how challenging times can spark unexpected creativity. It all began during a turbulent period when he found himself broke, living in a cramped flat with too many roommates. Though he'd been playing guitar and singing since he was 13, it wasn’t until he decided to learn drums that everything clicked.
“I started writing my thoughts and playing instruments as a way to cope,” he shares. One of his first creations, a song called Videogame, marked a pivotal moment. “I thought to myself, ‘Wow, ok, I guess I can do it after all. This isn’t terrible.’” From those humble beginnings, supermarius found his voice, drawing lyrical inspiration from everyday life, human contradictions, and influences like the book Sapiens, science, and sci-fi movies.
The Sound of Supermarius
Supermarius describes his music as “trippy and mellow but with a bit of an edge.” It’s rock, but not quite stoner rock—more introspective and meditative, blending soothing soundscapes with thought-provoking lyrics.
His latest album is a concept piece exploring the blurred lines between the virtual and the real world—a reflection on the "chronically online" era. “I like making music that feels comfortable but delivers a message that isn’t always positive,” he explains.
A Milestone Achievement
For supermarius, finishing his latest album was not just a creative triumph but also a personal one. “It was a test for me,” he admits. “I had to prove to myself that I could commit to finishing an art project.” The process wasn’t always easy—there were days when he didn’t want to record, practice, or head to the studio. But in the end, he persevered, and the result is a body of work he’s incredibly proud of.
Future Plans: A Fusion of Rhythms
Looking ahead, supermarius is eager to expand his musical horizons. Born in El Salvador, he grew up immersed in diverse rhythms and styles, and he plans to incorporate these influences into his future work.
“I want to stay trippy but explore new genres and rhythms,” he says. He’s already working on demos and lyrics, leaning toward another concept album. While the theme is still forming, his creative process remains the same: focusing on the music first and letting everything else follow.
The Story Behind "What a Life"
Supermarius’s music often draws on unique and personal anecdotes, like the lyrics from his song What a Life:
"Sunny day, Instabae, morning wood, I am poor."
The inspiration? A funny story from his university days in Asia. A close friend, an aspiring photographer, gained a significant following on Instagram, only to have his account blocked for “sexual content.” The culprit? A seemingly innocent hashtag, #morningwood, paired with a sunrise photo of a tree. Neither supermarius nor his friend realized the phrase also referred to morning erections. “I always thought it was super funny,” he says. Naturally, he found a way to immortalize it in his music.
Supermarius’s music is as introspective and imaginative as the artist himself, blending humor, humanity, and a touch of the surreal. Keep an eye on this rising talent as he continues to push boundaries and explore new creative frontiers.
