Published on TRK TLNT
Dive into the creative world of MC Rue, a Kansas City artist blending rhythm, production, and raw passion to create music that’s unmistakably his own. Here’s how he’s redefining his craft and setting the stage for what’s next.
From Inspiration to Creation: The Hip-Hop Roots
Growing up, MC Rue found himself drawn to the intricate rhymes and grooves of hip-hop’s great lyricists. Influences like Capital Steez, MF Doom, Joey Bada$$, The Underachievers, and Flatbush Zombies played a pivotal role in shaping his love for music. “Something about the bars and the pocket of the grooves and production is what inspired me to pursue something that makes me feel whole and happy,” Rue shares.
For him, making music is more than a career—it’s a passion that provides fulfillment and joy.
Beats and Beyond: A Drummer’s Approach to Production
With a drummer’s rhythm at heart, MC Rue has dedicated the last four years to mastering music production. His approach to beat-making is both meticulous and experimental, drawing inspiration from life’s everyday sounds, from the crackle of vinyl to the ambiance of walking home.
Describing his style, Rue says, “It’s warm, punchy drums, grit, and feel.” While he humbly acknowledges the talent of countless creators in the space, there’s no denying that his beats carry a signature texture and vibe.
Manor Records: A Creative Home Base
As a proud signee of Kansas City’s independent label, Manor Records, MC Rue benefits from a community deeply invested in local talent. “They dedicate time and effort to ensure artists in this city are able to create and have a backbone behind it,” Rue explains. This partnership has allowed him to explore his craft while building a solid foundation in the industry.
What’s Next: Albums, Vinyl, and Live Experiences
MC Rue is hard at work on his third album, starting from scratch to craft something fresh and authentic. Alongside this project, he’s collaborating on two other works with fellow Kansas City artists. This time, he’s taking his artistry to a new level by pressing the album on vinyl—an exciting milestone.
In addition to studio projects, Rue is expanding his live performances by incorporating more live instruments. “Instead of just me and the beat pad up there, I’m trying to bring more live elements to the shows,” he says.
Living, Learning, and Evolving
For MC Rue, the journey is as important as the destination. His music reflects his growth as a person and artist, and each track tells a story rooted in his experiences and influences.
As Rue puts it, he’s “just living and learning as I go.” And with each beat, groove, and rhyme, he’s paving the way for an exciting future in music.
